Facebook will be changing over to the new layout called ‘Timeline’ on on March 30, 2012, which will require companies to revamp their fan pages and think about their organization’s “bigger” themes.
Once the changeover occurs, administrators and fans will be able to post content as usual, but the following functionalities will be different, according to Facebook:
- Important “pinned” posts will remain at the top of the page for up to seven days.
- The new panel underneath the cover photo allows page administrators to track their performance and respond to private messages from fans.
- The capacity to chart milestones, larger stories and timely information. Page owners can tell more in-depth, creative stories through bigger photos and news highlights with dates and content.
Design
The top banner photo on the timeline is called a “cover photo,” intended to articulate a company’s unique mission, culture or product/service. For quality purposes, this photo should be sized 850 pixels by 315 pixels and should be formatted as a .JPG or .PNG. Due to the cover photo’s new mass, the profile photo of each page has been downsized to a thumbnail. At 135 pixels by 135 pixels, the profile photo is ideal for a square company logo or signature mark.
